Disney meets Fashion

Disney has linked up with luxury department store, Barneys. They have teamed up and together created a short film for their holiday windows, that will be unveiled on Wednesday 14th November 2012. The short movie , ELECTRIC HOLIDAY will feature a number of celebrities in their cartoon transformation at a fashion show.

Mark Lee, Barneys CEO explained: ‘Disney came up on a very short list of dreams – thinking about if we could do anything, what would we do?
‘They represent magic and Barneys New York holiday needs to be part magic and part surprise.’

In my opinion, the creations of the animated celebrities are fantastic and really are fab pieces of art, but Disney have done wrong by re-styling the Disney characters such as Goofy, Minnie and Daisy Duck. The clothing is gorgeous but it just doesn’t match with the whole Disney expectation as they are ‘SLIMMING DOWN’ the characters. The campaign idea for the movie is a great but transforming the cartoons to look like ‘SUPER MODELS’ its just simply wrong. Giving a negative message out about weight and size for boys and girls with promoting the characters with a scary unrealistic body image.  I’m sure there will be controversy over this.
