Designer, John Galliano(52) returns to fashion after his his antisemitic outburst in Paris which cost him his job as Creative designer at Dior back in March 2011. Galliano is taking a temporary residency at the studio of Oscar de la Renta in NY City as be prepares himself for a comeback to fashion at his show for New York Fashion Week.
“I am grateful to Oscar beyond words for inviting me to spend time with him in the familiar surroundings of a design studio…His support and faith in me is humbling.” – Galliano said.
Vogue editor Alexandra Shulman stated- “Oscar de la Renta is the king of uptown style and John Galliano the prince of romantic glamour, so it should be a magical match…I am delighted John’s returning to fashion”
“John Galliano has a very particular take on fashion that is nostalgic and luxurious and very beautiful. I think it is the beauty of his work that is a huge part of his appeal. It is often not the most commercial sensibility but it is extremely individual and desirable and I imagine will merge well with Oscar’s aesthetic.”
John Galliano’s first creation at Dior was for late Diana, Princess of Wales to wear to the Met Ball in 1996. He was awarded with a CBE in 2001 at Buckingham Palace for his services to the Fashion Industry.
Lets see what he has in store for NYFW when it kicks off! Will his second chance pay off ?
